Urgent advice needed!! Babies with Down Syndrome
I work in the infant room of a childcare center. in my four years of teaching, I haven't met a baby with DS. Today I have 5 month old N who started
I have base training for ages 1-5 kiddos with DS, not babies (now I'll have a ton of questions at my training next month!!). Mom didn't mention N's DS when she dropped him off, which is okay, it was just a surprise. I pulled N's blanket off his face, and noticed it. We looked at the folder his mom brought and sure enough N was diagnosed at birth and brought in his developmental plan.
Mom said N had intestinal surgery at 2 weeks old. He won't always drink his bottles and it takes a while for him to eat (which I'm now guessing because of his tongue.) His eyes are all over the place, which I can only guess it's because he can't focus them.
Mama's and other professionals, is there any advice to give? He's super happy and sweet. Has great head control and is working on sitting. I'm going to talk with mom some more tonight or tomorrow
