I'm white, and I'm in a belly dancing class. I love it but someone told me it's cultural appropriation. thoughts?

You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. It's not cultural appropriation to learn belly dancing. What would be cultural appropriation is if you learned belly dancing and then changed the name and tried to act like you invented it. Or if you shamed other people from a culture who knew how to belly dance. Tell that person to F off.

No. It's not racist, you're not appropriating a culture. It's a form of dance. I recommend you don't hang around obnoxious people like that who claim everything is racist.

You are literally embracing and celebrating another culture!! I mean maybe at a push you might be depending on what you wear? But just the plain dancing no.. that would mean non Irish people shouldn’t Irish dance?!
