Why do I have to be put to sleep for a D&C surgery to remove a Polyp from my uterus?

Is this normal? Does this procedure hurt and is it dangerous?

uh....prob hurts like hell! violating your cervix and uterus....its a pain unlike any other in my opinion. be glad they're putting you out.

yes its normal, they are scraping out the inside of your uterus so you are put to sleep because that would be extremely painful otherwise. I didn't have very much pain after, a little sore but totally gone 2 days later

Maybe for the polyp? I was awake for the d/c
