I used to drink milk a lot now I can't...

So I recently stopped drink cow milk. For a while now I've felt this uncomfortable fullness and ache in my stomach after drinking it. As a child I drank milk quite often. Mostly at night and morning. I switched to unsweetened vanilla almond milk and now I don't have that ache in my stomach after having a glass of milk. Sometimes I taste a bit to much almond but it's a good replacement. I'm not sure if I'm lactose intolerant. But my brother is. He can't have to much or his stomach aches. He can have a glass but not as much as a normal person. Has anyone else experienced this problem despite being a big milk drinker for years?

Fun fact: 60% off the world's population can't digest milk past childhood. Our bodies just aren't designed for it. Milk produces an inflammatory response in the body, which can cause gas and bloating, stomach discomfort, acne, excess mucus production, eczema... the list goes on. My husband and I were predominantly dairy free before my son arrived, and eat even less now as ds is allergic to milk protein.

You can actually trace lactose intolerance and milk allergy by geographical region. Individuals of Nordic descent (aka caucasians) are more likely to be able to tolerate milk as adults, because historically they have drank it for longer periods of time. Regions that did not have cows or drink a lot of cows milk thousands of years ago are more likely to have intolerance. It all has to do with evolution. From a biological standpoint, human infants are not designed to drink cow's milk. It has a much higher protein and fat content than human breastmilk, which is designed to be nature's perfect food. I'm not knocking people who drink milk or use formula, just stating that from a health standpoint your body might do better without it. A lot of the symptoms of intolerance are subtle, and you don't realize you are suffering from it until you cut dairy out.

Kaytee did you read the comment? No animal other than humans consume milk PAST CHILDHOOD, let alone another species' milk. I hate cows milk and my son is highly allergic (thank god, drinking milk gives me the creeps). I am very healthy and get my calcium from fruits and vegetables.

Cows milk is meant for baby cows, not humans. That is why your stomach hurts when you drink it.

First of all, my family was practically the one that put milk in business, we drank so much all the time, but now, my mom and two sisters can't seem to tolerate it, which is the weirdest thing ever. So yes, apparently you can develop an intolerance toward it, even after drinking milk regularly for years
