is it ok to ask a guy out?

So I have this guy friend who I like and who likes me but he won't ask me out cause I just ended things with my ex and distance and well I wanna ask him out but idk if i should I mean its not something the girl usually does is it okay for me to ask him out? UPDATE: did it asked him out with a poem my friend helped me come up with but he fell alseep so now im up all night waiting for an answer ahhhhhhhh so so scared. UPDATE! He woke up a little while ago and called me and told me he loved he and said yes!!!!! holy crap ive never been so happy
