Is infant swimming safe?

My MIL wants to take my 5 month old daughter to an indoor pool tomorrow but I see a lot of mixed information on google about the chlorine in pools..she says it's fine but I just want to make sure! Is the chlorine in pools okay for babies? What about a salt water pool?

babies can be given swimming lessons from as little as a month old. our daughter took lessons starting 3 months old. she's now 10 months old and swims on her own, knows to float on her back and hold breath while going in. the controversy here is about what they call -dry drowning-. u can Google it urself and get educated in that aspect and male a decision on how and when u want to start. I personally wanted her to be able to swim and float on her back,  very young.

I started taking my baby swimming in chlorine pools since he was 6 months. He absolutely LOVES it.

I make sure she doesn't swallow the water and I shower with her right after with soap.

The only issue that I would have was if one of my kids were allergic to the chlorine, or the amount of chlorine. But I would take my kids swimming.

Both are safe, oceans are a little more scary because some places have flesh eating bacteria... but as long as they are watching them and holding them and have sunblock then they should be fine.

Gosh, I just can't help but think about how selfless you are to give your MIL the opportunity to take your bub swimming for the first time. Ain't no one doing that with my children except me! Obviously each to their own though, I'm not judging. You must trust her so much and have a lovely relationship with her.

My son went swimming for the first time at 4 months. He's almost 8 months now and he goes swimming almost every day and loves it. He goes under and kicks and splashes.

My friend is an ISR instructor and it's totally safe! Just look at the persons reviews and make sure they're with a reputable company (it is a franchise in most areas). Great idea to keep the little ones safe and prepared.
