How long is too long?

Question

When you are dating someone, how often do you expect to hear from them? The person I am seeing is comfortable with once a day, sometimes a day in between. We see each other maybe twice a week, spend a night together and work crazy busy jobs. Sometimes I feel like I'm being needy because I miss him, think of him or want to hear his voice a few times a day, but he is so busy and I try to be respectful. The result is lonely. I just would like to know what it's like for everyone else. Thanks!

To me it depends on how you define the relationship, dating - once every couple days seems sufficient, in a relationship - probably a couple times a day, if not more

Every relationship is different. My bf and I talk from the time he gets up before work and until he goes to bed. He also txts me during each break. We don't longer than 1 hour without talking if we aren't at work. It works for us. But some people aren't big into texting/talking.

I completely get what you're feeling. That's how it is with my boyfriend. We're long distance and he works a lot so we don't see each other very often. Sometimes we'll go a couple days without hearing from the other, but we'll pick it back up like everything's fine. At first it was pretty difficult to deal with. But the more we talked about it, the more I understood what was going on (busy work schedule + just generally bad at keeping in touch with everyone) And he's not perfect with it, but I can tell he's trying. What it comes down to (more than anything) is whether this is something you can handle.
Another thing that has helped me kinda deal with the loneliness is trying to focus on other things for the time being. Like any sort of hobbies, hanging out with friends, watching a good movie or show. That way not only are you doing things that you like to do, but you guys can also have some more things to talk about the next time you meet up.

My husband works at a nuclear reactor so while he's running operations there's periods of time he can just text me a bit, while other times are super busy to where we can't talk til after work. But we always made a point to talk to each other as much as possible and before we lived together he'd stay the night every Wednesday and Saturday. I've broken up with someone because we couldn't communicate much. I told him I understood and it was by no means his fault his job required so much time, but I needed that interaction and he understood.
