1st scan ???

So I got my bfp yesterday and called to make an appointment with my obgyn. That will be when I'm about 7 weeks. The have scheduled me for an ultrasound. Is this normal ? I'm from the U.K. Living in the us so I'm not sure if this is the norm and I will be paying out for lots of scans ?? In the U.K. You get first scan at 12 weeks then the final one at 20. Sooooo confusing. Don't want to be ripped off paying for stuff I don't technically need. Thanks ❤️

I've had different experiences with all pregnancies. Same doctor. But when I had my first appt, I was only charged an office visit copay. If you're unsure, call your health insurance customer care line and ask. So you don't have any surprises.

My dr always does a first scan at 6-8 weeks to confirm viable pregnancy and due date. The next one is the anatomy scan at 19-21 weeks, and then last one at 36 weeks. Unless you go past your due date, then they do another one after due date to check baby and amniotic fluids.

Every doctor is different. Mine didn't schedule me until 11 weeks for my first appt and they are still going my my lmp for dating. My 15 week appt I got a quick surprise ultrasound but that is bc my OB has a portable machine. I wasn't expecting to see baby until 19 weeks for anatomy scan.

I had an ultrasound at my first appointment at 8 weeks to check for viable pregnancy and accurate EDD.

It's always done at first appointment here. It's a dating scan to get accurate due date and to confirm viable pregnancy. You don't pay anything extra for it if you have insurance.
