Army Orders and Fear of the Future
Venting Time: My husband's in the Army, and since December, he hasn't been doing so well on his PT tests...to the point that they began his out-processing paperwork and we thought he was going to be discharged. But then they lost the paperwork and he had more time to pass, but now it's August and he's still struggling. His next PT test is on August 31st, and they say he has to pass it or else they'll be starting the discharge paperwork again. However, we also recently got PCS orders for Germany in January 2018...and whenever my husband asks around about it, no one seems able to give him a straight answer about how/if his struggle with PT will affect the PCS orders...so we're confused. We'll probably just have to wait till after this next PT test to get any real answers. But either way, it looks like soon we'll be making a major life change: either PCSing to Germany or getting out of the Army altogether and moving back to Ohio. Both options terrify me in their own unique ways. Obviously, if we PCS to Germany, we'll be immersed in a completely different culture, which could exacerbate the loneliness and isolation I already often feel as an Army wife. Plus, from what I understand, PCSing to Germany requires a lot of money upfront for temporary housing that isn't reimbursed until a few months after the move, and after a series of financial issues, we only have $1000 left in our savings right now. On the other hand, if my husband is discharged from the Army, and we have to move back to Ohio, we'll both be unemployed and searching for jobs, while also trying to find an apartment, and that's equally scary and doubtlessly would also be tremendously stressful. Each option has pros and cons of course, but change has always terrified me. I've always suffered from a horrible fear of the unknown, and so much of our life seems up in the air right now, and it's so uncomfortable. I'm completely overwhelmed with anxiety lately, and I just want to cry. Vent session over.
