Boyfriend only says "I love you" sometimes?

When he left my place for work I would tell him I love him and he either doesn't say anything back or this morning he said "same". But he tells me he loves me other times, I just don't know why he doesn't say it back every time.

My husband tells me "I love you " all the time I'm the one that doesn't say it often. It isn't that I don't love him it's just I like saving that word and not over using it do it won't lose meaning. But if things have changed between you guys and he isn't saying it back like before talk to him and see if you both feel the same way

I understand. I don't really go through this as much, but I can get it. 
I would feel really hurt. I am a person who needs constant reassurance, not excessively, but an "l love you" often. 
I think you could possibly be reading too far into it, because some people just aren't as lovey and into saying it all the time. Sounds weird, I know. 
Maybe if you say "I love you!" And he doesn't answer with "I love you too" you can 'jokingly' say "I love you too!" Back to yourself, lol.

I use to tell my boyfriend I loved him everyday, but sometimes he would get annoyed because he felt I was overusing the word (which I kinda was).
Now I say it every so often or when I feel moved to say it. And so does he. But I know that he loves me even without speaking those words all the time.
I guess saying it everyday and having him say it back was away to validate our relationship, but once I realized that I didn't need to do that. Everything became more simpler. 
Plus my boyfriend isn't a verbal guy, but he expresses his love through action, so that works too!

I'm usually reply back "me too" to my husband but he understands.  However, i sometimes just randomly say it... like if we were in a car, i would kiss his hand and say ILY, or just at random moments and he loves it like that.  Find whatever works best for BOTH of you, don't just focus on what you want or feel comfortable with.   If you force him to say it every time you say ILY, i'm sure you will not be as happy as you think.  Let it come naturally. Instead of ILY, just give a quick good bye kiss and go?
