glucose meter shopping, suggestions?

hey all, I am shopping around for a glucose meter.. I of course dont want one that is crazy expensive, but I do want it to be accurate to say the least. any recommendations??

I use the the One touch ultra mini. Not bad on cost for the monitor.  The strips are pricey but insurance covers a large amount of that.

Do you not get one from your insurance? I got the freestyle and it super easy to use. Plus I got all the needles, test strips, and alcohol pads I need.

They gave me the Freestyle lite with 50 strips and a prescription for the rest of my strips at my dietician appointment but my insurance wouldn't cover the strips at all. At 4 pokes a day and $125 for 50 I didn't do it.
 I bought a ReliOn micro plus from walmart for $15 and the strips are $35 for 100. I do use the lancet from the Freestyle kit instead just because I can and it's nicer than the ReliOn one.

My husband has the One Touch Ultra. He really is happy with his - 7 years later. I was given a free one for gestational diabetes. I have the Freestyle Lite. I'm happy with it. Both of our monitors allow the needle stick to be adjusted to proper depth. I highly recommend finding one that has a firm, non-wiggly needle and one that you can adjust the depth. Keep in mind, your insurance will cover test strips. Your local pharmacy can help you get them covered by insurance - you will just need a script from the doctor. Test strips are expensive if you do not go through insurance.
