Let alcoholics touch baby?

Question

So my husband's side of family loves to drink alcohol. Every gathering has alcohol. You will never have an empty hand. I'm not much of a drinker. I can cut it out no problem. Yes I miss it every now and then, but I think about my baby and the desire goes away. Long story short, I know they'll be drunk around the baby. Everyone of them, probably including my husband. Do I let them touch the baby or should I just stay away?

You do know that alcoholism and drinking (even very often) are completely different things, right? Alcoholics are not just people who "love to drink alcohol" at social gatherings. Having even too many drinks at family gatherings is not alcoholism. Now, If they drink in excess every day, or most days, that's alcohol abuse, and if they cannot go without drinking then that's alcoholism.
That being said, assuming they are in fact abusing alcohol, I'd caution against it...motor functions are sort of important for holding babies!

I don't even have a baby and thinking of a drunk person touching or holding my nonexistent child upsets me. I definitely agree with you. Especially a baby!!

It sounds like you don't want them to hold your baby.. just do what you are comfortable with.

There's functioning alcoholics. Would I let someone who's had several drinks and showing clear signs of being buzzed hold my baby, no. Would I let them coo and awe and touch them, yes. They are lot lepers.  But at the same time my parents are alcoholics and I've had to learn to find balance for myself.

My family is basically a bunch of alcoholics and my boyfriends isnt. So I understand where you're coming from. For me, it's a matter of who I trust and how much they've drank and how they act. I'm usually right next to them or make them sit down and, if it gets out of control, you bet I will take my baby. Otherwise, if they're all super drunk, I'd say no and keep the baby with you because you can really only trust yourself girl.

i have 3 kids and they have never been near anyone who has had a swig of alcohol! me and hubby dont drink and we dont think our kids should know that side of life until they are older

I'd say depends on how they hold their alcohol. My husband drinks and he can have several without people noticing a change. I can tell because he's less of an ass when drunk. 😂 I'd trust him, even more than most sober people.

Are we talking touching in general or holding? I could see not letting them hold the baby when they're hammered that's completely understandable. But just like touching the baby? Nothing's gunna happen if they touch the baby...
