Should assisted suicide be (or stay) legal?

"physician-assisted suicide (PAS), involves a doctor "knowingly and intentionally providing a person with the knowledge or means or both required to commit suicide, including counseling about lethal doses of drugs, prescribing such lethal doses or supplying the drugs."

Making it illegal will not stop people from wanting to die and finding a way to make it happen. Keep it legal and do it safely.

I 100% agree in physician assisted suicide for cases of terminal illness. If someone is going to possibly suffer every waking hour of their last days why force them to drag it out? Or have them commit suicide in a more painful way... especially when doctors don't just grant this wish to ever patient since they need since there are strict requirements they need to meet.

We took care of my grandma when she had Alzheimer's. It was a nightmare for everyone. Her personality changed, she soiled herself all the time, and towards the end she forgot how to eat and swallow. She was a proud woman before the disease, but once it took her, she died scared, not knowing where she was or who we were, and laying in her own shit. It was awful. 
If we could have helped her die with dignity, we would have. I'm all for assisted suicide becoming legal throughout the U.S. No one deserves to die like she did.

This is a double ended sword in my opinion. I would have those who are suicidal go through months of extensive therapy to get the help they needed. After a year or so of that if they still sought for PAS I would grant them it. Depression isn't always curable. Let's look at cancer for a moment. Say your loved one went through months of extensive chemotherapy but there was no change. They were in so much pain that they just wanted to be sedated and stop treatment. Well here in America they're given the option to do so. But why isn't this acceptable for those with mental health issues? If you're living in constant pain and agony everyday (It's completely incurable) why should you continue to do so? Also I would much rather someone who's going to commit suicide either way have the assistance  there to make it less painful and more  comfortable for them. That's just my opinion though.

Assisted suicide is now legal in Canada. I personally know someone  who recently went through this process. He had cancer and was going to die, he just wanted to do it before things became too painful and drawn out. 
I'm all for assisted suicide, people have the right to choose to die in a humane, safe way.

Thankfully I'm in Washington where it's legal but I told hubby as a back up to fake trip on the power cord, I don't want a slow painful death

Sorry I don't want my last few days for my family to sit around as I writhe in pain or am too hopped up on pain meds I'm choking on my own drool.

I actually told my boyfriend if I ever get alzheimers or I'm a vegetable kill me, I'll even write a thing saying you can but he said no because he said it was murder in the US no matter what. I think if a person makes a legal written contract saying this person can kill me if I get/have whatever then that person/people are allowed without punishment because that is what the they want. But that's my opinion.

Yes I think it should stay legal. It is finally legal here in Canada and I know 2 people now who've done it. And I think we should have that right. If you have a terminal disease that can't be cured, then why not go out on your own terms. We do the "humane" thing for our animals. We should have that choice too. I know here and I'm sure everywhere it's legal, it is quite a process. Have to do lots of tests and interviews with psychologists and such to be able to do it. Which makes sense too. I wouldn't want to put myself or my family through weeks, months even years of watching me suffer. I hope I never have to make that decision tho. But it's good to know we now have that option. I support this 100%.
