How can I ask my GP for clomid and metformin?

I need something to regulate my periods so I can ovulate and hopefully get pregnant. My husband and I have been trying for 3 years now. My insurance doesn't cover fertility treatments or specialist visits and when I called up the fertility clinic near me they told me it would cost $350 just to see the doctor.😩

I'm trying so hard not to be negative but I literally have this horrible feeling constantly nagging me saying I won't ever bare children.
