Do you lean more towards federalism or confederalism? Why?

Federalism is a system of government in which entities such as states or provinces share power with a national government. 
      
A confederation (also known as a confederacy or league) is a union of sovereign states, united for purposes of common action often in relation to other states.

Federalism, separation between state and federal government. I strongly feel that states need to answer to higher authorities when it comes to human rights violations, equality, gender equality, education, etc... However, I don't feel the federal government should force policies/laws on states that deal with there own immigration laws. And, I also feel that US should answer to the UN, when the federal government infringes upon human civil rights, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

I'm all for smaller government. The way things are going, American government has WAY to much power. It's a slippery slope. I say, empower states and limit central government. 
"That government is best which governs least."

Here's why I think the states have too much power: 
We are the United States of America, but the fact is, we're not at all. There's too much disagreement between states, and giving states more power will simply amplify the disagreement which has landed us where we are today. There is a complete division between states - which has become more and more obvious with the recent election. If we give the states more power, then we will drift farther and farther from United and closer towards Division. The contrast is the reason why this country is unable to move forward. We do not deserve to call ourselves the United States of America.
