How to get rid of pacifier??

Question

My 16 month old son still has his pacifier.. and actually like 4 in his crib at night. He really only uses them at nap time and bed time. My husband has been pretty adamant lately he thinks we should get rid of them. Any suggestions on the best way to get rid of them? I'm really reluctant because I know I'm so lucky with how good he sleeps! Please any advice welcome!

At that age I'd hold off until he's ready to "send them to the new babies that need them"
Its only for sleep like you say. 
If husband isn't convinced he needs them, put him on night-wake duty

I honestly don't get why people say there is a certain age to take them away. My first was a total paci kid and had hers way beyond the "age appropriate" time most people say but I didn't care. If it's something that makes them happy and calm I didn't give a crap. Mine gave it up when she was ready and she never had a problem with it. Kids tend to find other things to soothe when you take away something. My sisters son starting playing with his own eyelashes when she took his away! Yikes. My friends kid started tickling his face and corner of his eyes when she took his. I know I'm the minority but I say let the kid have it!

My first actually got rid of hers at 16 months. The pedi said it would start messing with her teeth...I had her throw it away and she said "bye bye "! She only used it for bed and nap time.  The sooner you get it over with the better ( in my opinion)!  You have to put your own feelings/sleep aside if that's what needs to be done. Even if he sleeps well now it'll be rough for a week or so but he'll be fine and get use to it.  At the same time your his mom and you have to do what you feel is best. 😊

I was totally in the no paci camp! my husband begged me to let him give our son one at 2 months. I caved... then at 4 months he wanted to stop using it! Fuck, I said no! Now he is almost 11 months and still uses it. He has a blankie that he is obsessed with too and I think when he is ready he will transition just fine to just having his blankie. I'm not worried. I believe in waiting until he is ready.

Cut the tip off and give it to him like nothing is wrong and it's normal. When he goes to suck on it and sees it's "broken" you get let him throw it away himself. Then if he asks for it later remind him that he threw it away because it broke. Just make sure there aren't other ones in the house for him to find lol
