Down Syndrome

Yesterday at our 16 week ultrasound, the doctor was measuring the baby and everything looked great! He studied my baby's head for a good 30 minutes before telling me that he was having some trouble measuring the nasal bone.. he told me this could be a sign of Down syndrome. We will be having a more detailed ultrasound this Tuesday, and if the same thing happens, he said there is a minimally invasive surgery I could do where they Stick a needle into your belly, and this could confirm Down syndrome. The only problem is that this surgery could also cause pregnancy loss. Very rare, but it's possible. Has anyone ever done this test? How was it? My husband doesn't want to do it, he said our son will be a blessing no matter what he comes with. I agree, but some part of me would like to be prepared and know ahead of time. I have 3 cousins with Down syndrome and they are some of the most wonderful kids anyone could ever meet. They spread love and happiness wherever they go. Either way, we will be happy and love our baby endlessly. Any advice from other mommas who have been through the same thing??
