Missed MC - how long b4 d&c?

Question

For anyone who has had a missed miscarriage, how long did you wait before having the D&C;? I just found out last week (8w5d) that the baby stopped growing at 6w and has no heartbeat. We are doing another ultrasound next week just to be sure and then I expect the Dr. will suggest I schedule the surgery. I still have had zero bleeding and only minimal cramping. Also any advice for preparing for the procedure? Not looking forward to it. Thank you.

I have had 3 missed miscarriages and 3 D&Cs; in the past year. They were all scheduled within a day or two of the ultrasounds. As far as surgery- quick and painless. It's the emotional part that is hard. I hadn't had surgery prior to my first D&C.; I learned that waking up from anesthesia I wake up in a crying fit. The third D&C; I started miscarrying at home the morning of the procedure. It was the most terrible awful pain I have ever experienced. I HIGHLY recommend pushing to get the D&C; as soon as possible to avoid having to go through it starting at home. 🙁 So sorry you are going through this.

I had mine two days after the second ultrasound that confirmed no heartbeat and no growth.
Make sure you take it easy after. I did only for a day and then was trying to keep busy around the house and I think that's why I had such heavy bleeding after mine. There's a lot you deal with emotionally obviously but you have to respect the physical process too. Your body has been through a lot so take it slow and be gentle on yourself.

I wrote to you on that other thread but left out this part. I was almost 11 weeks and the baby had stopped growing at 9 exactly. My body was fully in tact (meaning no signs of miscarriage coming) and that was last Monday. She scheduled d And C for Wednesday. Just from her checking me, I think it jumpstarted everything bc I started having horrible back pain- felt like back labor similar to when I hAd my 18 month old daughter. When I went in Wednesday, she said I was dialated and she didn't have to dilate me once I was put under so my body did in fact know something was going on. I recommend the d and c sooner than later just because of the immense pain I felt Monday and Tuesday night carrying the baby I knew wasn't alive . The pin from the d and C was till there for me (cramping a lot) but less bad than what a natural miscarriage would have been. After feeling the back labor for 2 days, I was glad it was gone when I woke up from D and C. I pray you get peace with your decision. It's an awful one :(

I had mine a few days after I found out. I didn't want to bleed. My baby had stopped growing the day before my dr appt.(9w5d). honestly, I don't have any prep advice. I don't really know if there is any advice that can be given, it's just a really shitty, hard situation and I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Your next period will most likely come out of nowhere and bring all that pain back, though. You also won't have a ton of heavy bleeding with a d&c because they take out a lot of the tissue and such that cause the bleeding with mc.

I didn't have a d&c; it happened naturally like I wanted it to but I was in a lot of pain. schedule yours whenever you are ready.

I was 14 weeks when we found out that the baby had passed at around 9 or 10 weeks (had and ultrasound at 9wks and everything showed a perfectly healthy baby) I had my d&c; about 10 days later because nothing was paying and the pain of waiting was too much. I'd had two miscarriages before both natural and very quick, so this one just screamed something was wrong. So we scheduled the d&c;, and found out that if I hadn't had the d&c; that day I would've miscarried at home and hemmoraged so fast I would've bled out before help could get me. I'm happy that we scheduled when we did because we found about so many problems that we would've never known had we not had the d&c;
