do you ask your partner 'permission' to do things?

Im just wondering how normal this is... to ask permission to go out with your girls/guys, or to make plans not involving your SO.

I may phrase it like a question but we both know it's just about respecting each other and I'll end up doing what I choose anyway. But if he has a problem, concern, schedule conflict, etc then I need to know about it. The same rules apply to him. We "ask" each other but we'd really only say no if there's an actual problem.

If it's going out,  like to meet friends with drinks,  I ask.   It's OUR money so I wouldn't just go and use it without making sure he's okay with it.  But if I'm just going to visit someone (or do something that doesn't cost any money)  and it doesn't interfere with any plans he has,  then I just tell him.

It is not asking permission - it is mutual respect in keeping each other informed and possibly changing said plans should the other have legitimate reason to not like them. I don't NEED his permission to go out, but I respect him enough to care about his feelings.

I don't ask if I can I just ask if it's ok with him incase he has other plans.
But everyone's relationship is different so as long as your happy really.
But if you feel a loose of control when it comes down to your own life then something's is not right and need to do something about it! Talking about it is the best thing👍 hope your ok and happy 😊

I ask because I'm a survivor of domestic abuse and it's a habit after 4 years of having to get permission to do anything.

I stay home during the day while he works, so if it's free/super cheap and will be done before he gets home, I just tell him about it later. Otherwise, I'll run it by him with a "How do you feel about..." or "would you be okay with..." It's not about asking permission, but the way I spend our money and my time affects him, and so he deserves to have a say in it. He does the same for me. It's mutual respect. I will say, neither of us have ever told the other no unless there was a legitimate reason, like plans previously made. If you're in a bad relationship in which mutual respect isn't assured, well, a lot of things aren't going to go well, including making plans.

I don't ask permission, but if it's something that affects him I will discuss it with him and ask him his thoughts and perspective before making a decision :) Relationships are about communication and mutual respect

You shouldn't have to ask but you should make sure they're okay with it. Because you don't want to do something to upset them. But they should also do the same. Just check in an be like "is this cool?" Or "this is what I'm doing, is that okay? "
