cereal already?

FTM here, My baby boy is 2 1/2 months old and is eating more formula than recommended he's eating 5-6 ounces every 2 1/2 to 3 hours...i was wondering if anyone has started their baby on cereal already at this age or even other food to keep their baby more full? I feel like it's not satisfying him and that he wants more.

I would not give any cereal unless your dr has told you to. Call your pediatricians office and see if you can give him more formula or ask if they recommend cereal. Typically cereal at such a young age is used in bottles only to help with digestion and reflux. It will not make baby fuller.

Definitely talk to your doctor as it's not recommended to give cereal or any other solids until 6 months unless baby has reflux. 
And just from my personal experience, my daughter is 7 months and when we started her on solids and baby oatmeal, it did not keep her full any longer. She still ate at the same frequency and same amount. 
It's an old practice to add cereal to milk to keep baby full longer. It's also a choking hazard and no longer recommended. 
Try googling paced feeding if your ped said you're giving baby too much formula.

This is some great info from Dr Sears. Hopefully you find it informative as well. WHO recommends a minimum of 6 months before introducing introducing solids. More is known now than in our parents generation. Introducing solids earlier can cause health issues later in life, in adulthood. Pls do your research.
The intestines are the body’s filtering system, screening out potentially harmful substances and letting in healthy nutrients. In the early months, this filtering system is immature. Between four and seven months a baby’s intestinal lining goes through a developmental growth spurt called closure, meaning the intestinal lining becomes more selective about what to let through. To prevent potentially-allergenic foods from entering the bloodstream, the maturing intestines secrete IgA , a protein immunoglobulin that acts like a protective paint, coating the intestines and preventing the passage of harmful allergens. In the early months, infant IgA production is low (although there is lots of IgA in human milk), and it is easier for potentially-allergenic food molecules to enter the baby’s system. Once food molecules are in the blood, the immune system may produce antibodies to that food, creating a food allergy. By six to seven months of age the intestines are more mature and able to filter out more of the offending allergens. This is why it’s particularly important to delay introducing solid foods if there is a family history of food allergy, and especially to delay the introduction of foods to which other family members are allergic.

I wouldn't recommend it- your baby's gut isn't developed enough to digest cereal easily at that age so it may cause problems...since you said the pediatrician says your baby is eating too much, ask him/her what she suggests you do then. How much does your baby weigh if you don't mind sharing? If he's not gaining weight extremely fast I personally wouldn't worry much about it and feed the baby on demand..but that's just me 🤷🏼‍♀️

My daughter has eaten 5-6 oz every 2-3 hours since she was about 3 months. My doctor said to wait until 6 months for cereal. I would ask your pediatrician. As long as the baby is gaining weight and sleeping you probably don't need to rush the cereal.

Babies that young do not have fully developed digestive systems and should never be fed solid food. Not to mention it biologically is not necessary! Have you tried paced bottle feeding? It helps them slow down and they are better able to tell when they are full.
