Cheating?

Is it cheating if you talk to your ex?  We aren't trying to get back together.  We spent 9 yrs together. It's been a year and a half since we broke up. It's just nice to have that friendship.  
I'm happy with my current relationship . 
I just want to have that friendship . But not be told I'm cheating.
Do you think people can be friends with ex ?

Personally, I don't think so and I wouldn't be okay with my SO having communication with an ex unless there were children involved . But I think this really depends on how your SO feels about it. If he doesn't like it then you should respect that.

I guess my question would be are you hiding this relationship from your SO?  Are you emotionally sharing things with your ex you're not with your SO?  Is your current boyfriend opposed to this relationship with your ex? Does your ex have hope this will rekindle a romance between the two of you? Do you worry you can't trust yourself alone with this person?  Do you still have some romantic feelings for your ex?  You answer yes to any of these, it's cheating.  It might not be physical, but you're taking something away from your current relationship and sharing it with another person.  If the answer is no your fine, be friends.

I think it would be consider emotionally cheating. I mean besides the friendship you obviously have an attachment to him because you've known him forever. if it were me personally I would feel a little betrayed especially if I didn't know about the friendship. I would bring it up to your SO and see if he's okay with it and if he's not than decide who's more important

I wouldn't think so. I ended all of my previous relationships on good terms. We aren't friends, but frankly I wouldn't mind rekindling a friendship with them. Especially lately when a lot of my current "friends" and I are no longer very close.

The only person who can answer you here is your current SO. If they are uncomfortable with you being friends with your ex, then you have to decide what relationship you value more. I am personally not ok with my husband being in contact with his ex's because they want him back.

I myself believe people can be friends with their ex. I wouldn't consider talking to an ex cheating at all. At one point I assume my SO and their ex were friends before getting together. So obviously common interests, etc. So as long as there is respect I see no problem. But it is person by person, so I would talk to you SO to see how he feels.

I worked with my husband and my ex for years, we were all very cordial. I was with the man for 4 yrs, we had HISTORY, but that was it. My husband was very secure with the situation.

I am friends with most of my exes. I don't feel a single thing romantically for them but just because we wernt meant to be together romantically doesnt mean we should destroy all friendships.

I would say and always will say the ex is an ex for a reason as well as the past is the past! Leave it there and build the friendship within your current relationship or break it off and get back with your ex
