car seat behind driver or passenger?

I know that the center of the back seat is safest. my new car doesn't have a head rest to put the mirror on, and I really want to be able to see my baby while driving. I couldn't find one straight answer online. so which one do you think is better? behind the driver or passenger?

You can adjust the mirror so you can see. I don't have a head rest either in the middle and I just put the mirror on the back passenger side and angle it so I can see him. And I mean it's not like it's super necessary either. I had it in my car and took it out to put in my boyfriends truck and haven't even put it back in my car yet.

Check your car's manual. It usually says where the safest place in that car is. I most commonly hear passenger.

I found a mirror that attaches to the window with suction cups... I stuck it on and I have tested it a few times, it's not coming off easily even in heat and cold!!! its adjustable as it tilts in every direction but it is a bit smaller than most mirrors... it also came with a visor clip so you can mount it to your sun visor once baby becomes front facing... that way your rear view mirror can stay adjusted for actual driving... I love it. it was like $8 at babies r us... and my little man can stay in the middle!!

I did passenger. I'm sure someone will shame me...it's easier to give a crying baby their pacifier back there rather than behind the driver. *note I only do at stops

I read that behind the driver is safer, if there is such a thing, because a driver instinctually protects their side of the car. My son has always been on the passenger side though because my husband has to have the drivers seat all the way back. Car seats are side impact tested so either would meet safety requirements if installed correctly

I had heard having a mirror is unsafe because it becomes a projectile placed right in line with your baby in an accident. for me, baby will have to be behind the passenger seat because I am tall and need my seat all the way back. as for safety, I am not sure if one side is safer than the other. I think the driver's side is more likely to be hit though, but I have nothing solid to back that up with lol 😊

One reason to put the car seat behind the passenger seat is if you're driving and need to turn around to look at baby/hand him something/whatever (at a ref light of course), it'll be a little easier if they're behind the passenger than if they're behind your drivers seat.

I'm not sure I can answer your question but my car doesn't have a headrest in the center either, but I can easily angle the mirror so I can see baby! Just a thought if you want to put baby in the center 😊

I'm from the UK and I've always heard opposite from you in term of centre bring the safest. We did have the car seat behind drivers seat but my husband has long legs so he's now behind passenger seat.
