Abnormal cramps

So this month my cramps have been really strange. It started a few days before my period. My stomach cramps up and then I feel the sudden very urgent urge to go to the toilet! Almost like contracts. I sit on the toilet and nothing happens... I can't go. There's nothing there! What is my body trying to tell me???
