Should you ALWAYS respect your parents?

So, the past few months i've been living with my mom. This is the first time since i was two that i've lived with her. She chose an abusive boyfriend over my sister and i and never had any interest in being in our lives until just a few years ago. I'm 17, about to be 18, and feel really weird about her telling me what to do. I called her earlier to tell her i was going to the mall to get some food because there's absolutely nothing to eat in this house. She went off on me, told me I couldn't go because it's raining and roads are slippery, and said if i went anyway she'd leave work early and bust my ass. So i hung up on her, mid-rant, and called my dad and told him what was going on. He told me to go ahead and go get some food because I'm STARVED. My mom found out and now she's livid because i didn't 'respect her wishes as my parent'.

What do you guys think? Should you automatically respect everything your parents say just because of the title? I pretty much listen to my mom since i'm living in her house, but this time i felt she was being completely unreasonable so i listened to the parent that i do respect.
