Spotting

So I'm supposed to start my period next week, and yesterday I went to wipe & when I did i had a brownish red discharge. I had spotted the rest of the day & it turned more into red blood than a discharge. Today I put a tampon in & when I went to remove it, it had blackish old blood on it. What could this be?? I'm on the pill & i never miss & take them on time. I have also never spotted like this before.
