IVF with ICSI developmental/intellectual issues/autism
Hello everyone.
Doing IVF now:
9 eggs were extracted.
Doctor recommended ICSI even though my husbands sperm was fine.
8 have fertilized and today we learned all of them have reached the 4 cell stage.
Planning on fresh transfer on day 5 if possible.
So, situation is initially we weren't going to do icsi and then felt pressured into doing it. When we got home we researched icsi and came across a Swiss study of 31,969 ivf patients from 2013. They found a 51% increase in intellectual deficits before the age of 5 (including autism) in ivf patients who specifically did ICSI.
I'd like to know from all of you terrific people, have any of you done specifically conventional ivf with ICSI? And now that your child is older have you noticed any learning disabilities or mental impairments please. I know this is a sensitive subject for some but I'm wondering if we should even go through with this. My fertility dr. wasn't able to give me any data proving otherwise. Only would say we do it all the time but that they don't track babies into childhood after they leave the clinic. Cognitive impairment isn't often identified at birth.
