C section or vaginal?

So I'm kind of stuck between which way I should have my baby... My doctor says I may absolutely have to have a c section but nothing is official yet so just in case, I'd like an opinion from someone who has been in a similar position. Can any of you help a sista out pleaseee? I'm scared either way.. Ripping my vagina sounds awful! Which is what happened to my mother In law. And I don't know how I feel about a C section either bc I don't know anyone who has had one to tell me their experience. Any advice or guidance for a stressed mother to be?! anything will help, thank youuu

Hi! I have a degree in Child Development that includes studying child birth at a high level of content knowledge. I totally understand why you'd be concerned about either way and I saw some horror stories below so I just quickly wanted to say that whatever way your child is delivered, he or she is so lucky to have a parent who's thinking ahead. Great job mom! 
Okay medical stuff!
-Never get attached to a birth plan. It will be ruined. 
-Either method of delivery is going to make it hard to use the restroom after birth. Be prepared. 
-ripping is common in moms, the doctor will numb you and stitch you after. They probably won't give you an episiotomy like they most likely did when your MIL delivered. This hopefully will prevent extra ripping. 
-C-Sections are SAFE and NECESSARY. Doctors absolutely don't recommend C-Sections for their convenience. That'd be a great way to lose their license. 
-Days before delivery, you'll most likely feel contractions and your doctor should be able to measure your cervix and make a decision about which method.
-Recovery takes longer on C-Sections. 
-When you're bringing your child into the world, you will also have to deliver the afterbirth. Sometimes that part can be worse than the delivery. Don't stress. Every delivery is different and you can do it. 
I know many moms who have delivered both ways. One isn't better than the other because it's such a case by case basis.

during my c-section my spinal block didn't fully work. I felt pressure when they made the cut, but they only cut a little. they rip it the rest of the way because it's easier for ripped skin to heal than cut. I felt the ripping. I was screaming in pain so much while all the nurses were screaming at the doctor to stop, but he wouldn't. they were worried about the amount of stress this was putting on the baby so had to knock me out. by the time I came to. they had almost finished her first bath. I honestly can't see why someone would willing choose a c-section. and that was just the surgery. the healing processes was horrid as well

If there's a definite reason to go C, (breached baby or emergency) do it but otherwise, vaginal. C-section is a largely unnecessary surgery which is often done for the doctors benefit and NOT for the woman's benefit. You will also heal faster after a vaginal birth with MUCh less infection, and it's better for the baby. Babies delivered by c section are  more likely to have breathing problems. Beware: DOCTORS WILL TRY TO FORCE YOU TO HAVE A C SECTION FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT. NOT YOURS.

Go in with a plan of what you want-  if the doctor says the plan needs to change then you need to trust them. If you can't trust your doctor then you need a new doctor, or a good shaking. Don't overthink it, just trust what's best for the baby and for you. I personally haven't been through this but my best friend did, and had the same concerns- and that was her response

I wanted 100% natural birth for my whole pregnancy... And when my lil one decided to come I was told LO was breach and I would need a c.section. I did educate myself about the process just in case. They had to give me 6 doses of anesthetic before I was numb enough and by that point I couldn't move my arms so it was a little while before I could hold my baby. I was so glad to have a family member stay that night because my Lil one was uncomfortable weening from the meds and I was mostly passed out on and off from the meds myself. I know in my case it was necessary and my healing process went just fine with no issues and really not much pain either, though I had internal stitches and glue externally not Staples or stitches so I was lucky. I personally would still opt for vaginal as long as I could but not fight a c section if it is necessary.
