Do you regret having a wedding?

I'm newly engaged and I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it.

I had both a small wedding-just me and him and my parents and it was in Vegas and it was truly the best weekend in my life. We also had a big wedding (50K and 250 people) a little bit later and I had WAY more fun at my little wedding. And I 100% regret spending so much on my wedding because big weddings end up being about the guests and not about the two of you. If I had it to do over, I would've invited maybe 10 or 15 people to my little wedding and had a fun weekend with the people closest to me.

We skipped the traditional wedding. We got married on a friend's boat. It was just parents, one of my siblings, and two of our friends.  My mom got ordained and officiated the ceremony. It was perfect!  We are having a big BBQ to celebrate with everyone that wasn't there for the ceremony. I don't regret not having a "normal" wedding at all and we aren't starting our marriage off in debt.

I spent $600 and it was seriously one of the best weddings ever!! Everyone still comments about how much fun and laid back it was.

I wanted to elope, even on my wedding day I was still asking my fiancé. Don't get me wrong I loved my wedding and I had an amazing time. But the 30+k we spent, we paid for our own wedding every single penny, we could of put towards a house, or paying off my student loans.

I spent 5k on my wedding and it was great. :) 
Just set a budget; stick to it, there is a lot of options if you dig to have a lovely wedding without going overkill. I could have spent 15k easily, but I stayed away from those venues.

Yes, it's worth it. You will have those memories forever and it's a one-time opportunity. Don't break the bank though.

In retrospect, I wish we'd put aside all the money we spent on our wedding, because we're struggling right now, and could really use the extra cash! In some ways, I think it was a waste of money. We bought too much food and too much cake, quite a few favors got left behind, and a lot of the decor just ended up getting tossed after everything was said and done. Not only was it expensive, but it was also really stressful. I didn't have a lot of help, and the day of, I was so damn anxious about everything that I couldn't really enjoy anything.  It's weird, because I always thought I wanted a "proper" wedding, but looking back, I wish we'd just stuck to our courthouse wedding.
