Do you feel oppressed by religion in your country? Or do you feel your religion is oppressed?

Please explain where you are from and why you feel the way you do.

I'm from the US. I constantly have religious people butting into my life to tell me I'm going to hell. It doesn't make sense, as most of the major religions have some belief to the effect of, "judge not, lest you be judged" but lots of vocal, religious people seem to like to twist their religion to fit their own selfish desires.

Generally speaking, I don't personally feel oppressed by religion in my day-to-day life.  I do see religious-influenced oppression of women, particularly pertaining to reproductive rights, in the U.S. government. I also think there 100% are people who are oppressed by religion on this country. The LGBQT+ community is a big one. 
As for religion being oppressed I would say it depends on the religion. Christianity? No. Islam, Judaism, or other religions that are in the minority in America? Yes.

Fun story though. In high school my religion teacher made a big speech on the first day of class about how everyone who believes in Jesus will face persecution and oppression at some point in their lives. He did it all dramatically too pointing at us individually saying, "you will be persecuted for your faith". I'm still waiting for that to happen over 15 years later, unless I can count the times that same professor kicked me out of his class for disagreeing with him. 😑

Half and half religious people in America are usually the ones to try to take away minority's rights like LGBT+ and also religious people(referring to Christians here) are usually the ones to have protests against my religion and spread lies to make people think we are evil and for the other half religion oppressing me there are people in the religion not the religion itself that go over board  and oppress other people in the religion who don't believe the same thing as them and will go crazy if someone commits one sin and they have there own belief sect of the religion.....

As an atheist, (a title I don't exactly boast as a person living in the south lol) I've had my shares of discrimination over my lack of belief. But I wouldn't go as far as calling myself oppressed by religion or it's followers. Most religious people I have met WILL try and convince me otherwise once finding out I am an atheist, but I don't feel attacked or minimized by them doing so. I actually used to be a HUGEEEE christian growing up (yes y'all, the whole shebang) and never felt oppressed then either. I actually felt more accepted in society and more "normal" when I was a christian than as an atheist. To say Christians are oppressed in the US in this day and age just sounds sooo silly to me. Sometimes things just don't work with your agenda, I get it. But it doesn't mean you're oppressed. Just inconvenienced. There will always be other options here in the US for Christians (in specific). As for Jews, Muslims, etc. here in the US? That's a different story. There's some mean stuff going on with that.

Religion isn't really a big thing in Australia (at least everywhere I've been). You're more likely to meet an atheist/agnostic person on the street than you are a Christian. I've never been judged face to face for being agnostic. I'll laugh at the church signs and hide from johos but I'm in no way oppressed by religion in my country.

I don't feel "oppressed" but I do feel very misunderstood and like people jump to negative conclusions as an atheist in a mostly Christian country
