Cloth diapers?!

Question

Hi ladies! My hubby and I are talking about using cloth diapers but I'm not sure where to start with picking the right ones! There seem to be a lot of different kinds out there.  Does anyone have any tips for which brands or types you liked or didn't like so much?! Thank you!!

I watched enough YouTube videos and read enough blogs to realize no one kind is the best for any mama. I am buying a couple of about 4-5 brands that seemed to be favorites and I am going to decide after baby is born. I read/saw that some mamas like having multiple brands too, as certain brands are better for overnight vs. during the day hanging at home vs. nap time vs. going outside. Newborns wet so often, I'll probably do disposable for the first few weeks, then start testing the different brands and figuring out which ones i like best. Thank goodness for Amazon!

Prefolds and covers here (disposables till he fits in small covers because newborn covers are expensive to use for only a few weeks). Hand wash covers, wash pre folds in the washer. We buy different sized prefolds from gmd (green mountain diapers), great quality. Either snappi or pin. They're not as hard as you might think and much cheaper than AIO of AI2s

I did lots of research! Recommend starting with the YouTube series cloth diapering 101 by the thrifty mom, lots of helpful info!! Also check outs fluff love university website, their Facebook page fluff love CD science is a great resource as well. I've been cloth diapering for 9 months and LOVE IT!! I wasn't sure about brands and pretty naive so bought a few different 6 packs of pocket diapers from amazon, Nora's nursery, LBB, and Mama Koala. They've honestly all worked out great, I am just now having to buy extra inserts for more absorbency and have not had any leak issues (since figuring out my wash routine which was thanks to fluff love uni!!) I also bought some bum genius, thirsties, and Alva! I love all my thirsties, BG world Great they're my nighttime diapers but I've heard they wear quickly, so be wary of that. I bought from Amazon and Kelly's closet, my Kelly's closet order I broke up into two orders to get two free diapers since if you spend x amount you get a free one. It's also fun to find good deals n there! I've also been gifted just plain Gerber prefolds which I bought about 6 covers total for, which also work GREAT! It all depends on preference which you'll learn through the series what works best for you.

I LOVE my cloth diapers!!! The best advice I can give is to try a couple different kinds before committing to buying your whole stash. What works for one mama may not be your favorite. I had a mixture of All in ones, pockets and flour sack towels with covers which are so cheap and easy it's ridiculous. I loved my AIOs for ease but they did take longer to dry. These are definitely the best. I used them a few time for my first, only because I had a couple as a gift. I didn't know enough about them and was too lazy to get into it. I will be using them for baby #2 and will have enough to not use disposable nappies at all.

I found that China cheapies delaminated quickly and just were so bulky and big on my kids. I love smart bottoms, personally. They're pricey, but they're organic and worth it IMO. You can buy them used, sanitize, & use on your own kids then resell too. They hold value well. I also used bum genius with my first and like those okay, but they didn't hold enough pee for my super soaker second baby. I've been able to use my smart bottoms from 6 months with my first, and am about to use them on my third whenever baby is born
