Do you think this is ok?

Long time lurker, First time poster. So the Sheriff in Polk county is threatening to send people to jail if they show up at a shelter with a warrant. Irma is a huge threat to Florida including where I am and I think this kind of threat will keep people from seeking shelter who need it. I don't feel that this is the time to use that kind of scare tactic.

Good for him. If I was going to a shelter with my family I would want to know it's safe and not full of potentially dangerous people with warrants out for their arrest. At least he gave them a heads up so they can choose to seek shelter elsewhere.

Honestly, yes. As a victim of numerous sexual assaults, I'd want to know that I and everyone else was 100% safe in the shelter and am just the kind of person who thinks if anyone deserves the death penalty or torture , it's murderers, pedophiles and rapists. 🤷‍♀️ They shouldn't be shitty people if they don't want to be treated like shit and worse in return..

People on here acting like getting a warrant is as simple as tripping over your own feet. Ive had multiple traffic violations, always payed my fine or showed at court. It's not that difficult. Also if you realize you missed your court date, the easiest thing to do is go to the court and get it straightened out. The issue is when people have a warrant and then don't address it until they're arrested.

I disagree people get warrants for things as simple as forgetting you had a court date (maybe even for something that happened years ago, or for missing a court date for something that's just started and they are innocent of) there are people will actively avoid the shelter and possibly DIE. (Insert for the people who say:good we don't need them here anyway) they could seriously have a warrant for a negligent speeding charge. And they might die trying to avoid cold, dirty, jail. Ha. I absolutely loathe this country and the inhuman people in it.

Like I said on the other post it takes a while before a warrant is issued. There are multiple times u have to miss court for them to issue a warrant. That being said that's their own faults for not handling their business. 
Now there are different classifications of warrants. Some  bench warrants will allow the cops to reschedule the date them selves and they issue a ticket for the new court date. If he's arresting people with those kind of warrants he's a fucking dick.
If it's a no bail warrant the police are required to bring them in. No bail warrants are issued after u miss multiple court dates or have a violent or federal charge against u. If that's the case again that's the person with the warrants fault. And the cop is just doing their job keeping shelter communities safe.
Also there are multiple resources for people to check if they have a warrant. You can easily log onto your local court website or whatever court website u may feel you have a warrant in. And check, in the event of a warrant, u can go into the court house and either schedule a new date or walk in and see the judge. Again, HANDLE YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS. There's no excuse for a warrant
I have 3 charges on my record my bf has a few as well, if he or I had a warrant and were stopped there's a possibility of us going to jail. Which is why if your a criminal (like me lol)  HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS. Don't give the police a reason to stop u

I agree with it. It's for the safety of everyone really. I saw on a previous post people said is it really fair for those petty crime warrants like you wrote a bad check or parking ticket but I don't get how people can let it go that far to get to the warrant point. I've also seen people mad saying it's forcing those w warrants to choose jail or death. I think that's a bit dramatic.

It would depend on what the warrant is for.  My ex had warrants for traffic violations that were unpaid...in that situation its a waste...On the other hand, I think it will keep violent offenders away from the shelter.. allowing the safety of other families.

What happens if you don't have an ID(be it it don't have one, forget it, lost it upon getting out or being rescued). Are you turned away?

I think it's justified. I wouldn't want to be in a shelter with a murderer or a burglar. It's for public safety.

Idk why but the first thing I thought about was a post from like last week asking if it's okay for the police to bate child molesters online with fake profiles etc... I only compare the two becuz I honestly have the same feeling towards it.... 
It's okay and a good thing becuz the ppl at the shelter should be safe and know the surrounding I wouldn't want a family with a single mother and her kids to be cozying next to some type of serial killer or something (dramatic but I'm just saying) 
But it's also a bad thing and a waste of time ... ppl are looking for shelter in this time of disaster and whose say the ppl the cops are going to arrest aren't just ppl who missed court date for petty theft or something small ... 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ I dunno it's honestly hit in miss and sooo much more for the police to be doing with their time
