Routines anyone ?

How old was your child when you tried putting them on a schedule or routine ? My baby is 3 weeks old and I won't be going back to work until the end of November but I would like to try and get him on a schedule so that things won't be so hard when I get back to work . I'm just not sure when to try.

I think at that age, my personal philosophy is that the baby just needs their needs to be attended to whenever they need it. So if your baby usually eats every 3 hours but sometimes they want to eat every 45 minutes or something, you just have to go with the flow. No harm in trying to do something like have a bedtime routine to help baby know it's time for sleeping or something (we try to keep our baby up for a couple hours before about 10pm so she's sleepy for bed time) but I don't think any baby that young can truly handle a strict schedule. I think the routine is more of a "nice to have" than something you can really count on at that point.

I'm a crazy schedule person and started following the moms on call schedule at 10 weeks with my first son. I started already with my second son. He is 4 weeks old. It's not much other than feeding at the same time everyday and no naps longer than 2hrs. But I hope it helps the older he gets

Following... my guy turned 1 month on Sunday and we all over the place.   He passes out after bottle.  I wake him up and do an activity and then I can't get him to go back down.    So we end up with 20 minute naps or no nap.

while pregnant he was always awake at night. Thats what i expected when he came out. but at 2-3 weeks, he was sleeping through the night. going to bed at 8 wake up at 8. just small whines every 3 hours for diaper changes and feeding. i didnt do anything different. hhowever you can start your own schedule like at 730 give a bath, read a book to baby, and a nice warmed up bottle ( if baby eats 2 oz.. give 2 1/2)

Following. This is my 4th little one. I remember with my older 3 that they did not have a set schedule until closer to 6 months, but I was able to plan things better around 3 months. Meaning they had a routine of sleep, eat, play (in that order) throughout the day. Rather than eat, sleep, eat, sleep, cry, eat lol so they started to become a little more predictable. Which made it easier for everyone!

I started a "routine" at one month, which was only a couple days ago. At 8pm I give her a bath, lotion her up with a little massaging, dress her, swaddle her but leave her arms out, give her a bottle, and then try to put her to sleep. 
I read this helps them learn it's time to go to bed once done for long enough. Otherwise I still just let her sleep and eat as she wants.

I'm going back to work on the 25 and my bay is about to be1 month. Our schedule is al over the place because she wakes up and is up for 2-3 hours and then goes to sleep.m or she takes 20 minutes naps and is up again. 😞🤦🏻‍♀️ hopefully we can get her to where she can start sleeping and waking up at the same time every day. I will work from home but it will be hard for me to focus on work if she is up for 2-3 hours.

Ok the past few days have been progress!   We are doing a morning feeding at 9:00am and 5:30pm, no matter what.   Even if he just ate right before that.    It's a start.   Im loosely using the moms on call app.   I did not read the book, but it seems a lot like baby wise.    Like today he napped for 3.5 hours and I didn't wake him up.   So that was 4.5 hours since he ate.    I just gave him an extra ounce and he was all good.   I'm so scared to wake him up from napping.
