is a baby monitor needed? 😱

Question

I've read somewhere recently that if you lived in a smaller place a baby monitor is not really needed...? Is this true? FTM and I don't know what to believe with anything I'm so lost 🙈 does anyone live in a smaller place and have any advice for this? (I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and can hear people talk no matter where they are in my apartment)

It's so much more than the ability to hear your child cry. Being able to see them is so important because it allows you to see if they're in an unsafe sleeping position rather than having to walk in there every 5 minutes. Your child isn't always going to make noises if they're suffocating or having problems. So to me a sound monitor is completely useless. I always recommend a video monitor.

When we first had my son we were in a 2 bedroom and never used our monitor, despite having one. I also hated the video monitor. I became obsessed with looking at it all the time when I really needed to just be sleeping!

Honestly I live in a small place but I love having ours! We have a 2 bedroom 1 bath, and if she's napping I'll use it when I shower. Or if I need to take the trash out or run out to the shed I can have the monitor on and not have to bring the baby with me. I've actually used it once when we had family over for a BBQ, she was inside napping and I had the monitor on outside with me so I could be with our family too. 
Honestly I use it all the time! Or even if I'm doing laundry and she's in the living room! Especially now that she crawls and pulls herself up.

I live in a small 2 bedroom house. I have a video monitor. I love it mainly because I also have a 3 year old so I can sit outside on the back porch and let my oldest play while baby is right inside napping. That way I'm able to watch them both.

Get one! I live in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment. Our room and the babies room share a wall and his crib is against that wall. My coworkers gave us a video monitor as a gift and I'm so glad we used it. He never had sleeping problems but it was still comforting to me to be able to see him and know that he was safe and ok without having to get up and go in there and risk waking him up.

I personally would still get one. They are nice to have even if you're not just at home. Say you go somewhere like a family members house and want to lay the baby down but you want to go outside then to relax in the nice weather with family. You pop those monitors on and you don't need to with about contract going in to check on baby. I live in a house but my bedroom is right next to the babies and if he was crying I probably wouldn't hear it without the monitor. You don't need super expensive ones. We just have v-tech ones that were probably like $35. And we truly use them all the time.

I think it's more of a personal preference. My nursery is across the hall from my room so I will definitely hear the baby crying, but my friends have told me the video monitors are a life saver in the middle of the night... you can check on them without having to get out of the bed and can see if they are really crying or just need a minute to fall back to sleep.

I live in a 2 bedroom and I think it's helpful because I go in there when I see her moving around, before she is completely awake, so I can get her back to sleep.
