TTC with no such luck

I came off birth control in June when I was on the week of my white pills. We tried, knowing it could be too soon off the pill. I had a normal period in July, and we tried when I was hoping I ovulated. No luck. Really thought we got lucky as I had skipped my entire cycle in August, only to be disappointed again. My period showed 1 week to the day before my period this month (September) with no PMS symptoms present. I don't ever have late periods as they are typically 28-29 days... Skipping a whole cycle really was depressing as I thought we had gotten lucky. Now, my husband (in the Air Force) is deployed for a year so everything is put on hold. I get to see him for a couple weeks half way through and maybe then we will get lucky. Has anyone been in this position? Advice or help?
