What is the Holy Spirit?

katelynn • Christian teen 16! Isaiah 40:31❤️

The Greek and Hebrew ru'ach and pneu''ma meaning "spirit" have different kinds of meanings All are referred to things that are invisible to us and provides evidence of force in motion. These are some references: 1. Wind 2. Gods active force 3. Active life force in earthly creatures, etc.

There are lots of texts that talks about the Holy Spirit that shows it is spoken of as "filling" people, people getting "baptized" with it, and they can be "anointed" with Holy Spirit as well. (Luke 1:41; Matthew 3:11; Acts 10:38) The way those verses express the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit could no way be a person. Jesus also talked about the Holy Spirit being a "helper" and said that that helped would "teach" "bear witness" "speak", and "hear" (John 14:16, 17, 26; 15:26; 16:13) But it's also usual to see something personified. For example: in Luke 1:41 it is said that wisdom is to have children. In Romans 5:14, 21 says sin and death are seen as kings. Meanwhile there are some verses that say the spirit "spoke", other passages makes it clear that it was done through angels or humans. (Acts 4:24, 25; 28:25; Matthew 10:19, 20; compare Acts 20:23 with 21:10, 11). In 1 John 5:6-8 says the spirit, the "water", and "blood" are to "bear witness". So none of the expressions found in those Bible verses themselves prove that the Holy Spirit is a person. So a reasonable conclusion is that the first verses I mentioned- from the book of John, employ a figure of speech personifying God's Holy Spirit, his active force, as the Bible also personifies wisdom, sin, death, water, and blood. The Bible tells us the personal name of our Father - יהוה, YHWH, Jehovah, or Yahweh. The holy scriptures also informs us that Jesus Christ is the son of God. But the scriptures never informs us of the Holy spirits personal name. Ive come to the conclusion and believe the Holy Spirit is God's active force.
