How To Care For New Tattoo?

I got a tattoo about a 24 hrs ago. It is a large thigh piece going down my leg. It took 4 hours with a lot of red and shading. 
What is the proper way to wash it? Warm or cold? 
Vaseline or unscented lotion? 
I know you use unscented soap.

I was told not to use Vaseline or any antibacterial creams. When use an antibacterial cream, you put it on to get rid of the infection or stuff that isn’t supposed to be in your skin. They say it can push the color out since the tattoo is a bunch of little wounds, and the ink is not “ supposed “ to be in your skin. I always use an invented lotion and my tattoos turn out just fine.

I always use aquaphor when I get tattoos. A&D; gave me acne all over the area which wasn't fun.

your not supposed to wash it. shower don't bathe. pat with a towel don't rub. I used nappy rash cream I think it's the best.

Coconut oil is good because along with moisturising it is going to clean your skin.

I say warm water for the washing then splash some cold water on it to help close the pores. Then I use lubriderm for moisturizing.

I washed all of mine with mild soap 2-3 times per day-- gently and with the pads of my fingers--, patted dry with a clean cloth, then applied just enough aquaphor for it to be moisturized, but not shiny (for a larger thigh piece, a little more than a pea-sized dollop should be good). Once it started to itch and flake, I washed once daily in the shower (still gently-- don't exfoliate or pick off skin!) and applied coconut oil or unscented lotion as needed.

Lotion. You'll trap everything in if you use too much Vaseline. My preference is actually A&D; ointment but again you cannot use a lot. Very very very thin layer. Clean with mild soap and water. Cold or hot doesn't matter.
