How long after a baby should I take a pregnancy test?

I had a baby two months ago. My husband and I have had unprotected sex three times in the past two weeks. I am breastfeeding my daughter. I have not gotten my period yet. When should I take a pregnancy test??

I take one once a month. I'm still breastfeeding my 9 month old and don't have a period back. When I went in for my 6 week pp appointment, I told him I had unprotected sex two weeks before and he told me to give it another week or two before testing.

Breastfeeding can delay the return of your period. It can come back right away, or stay away until you wean, it is all a big question mark and varies from person to person. Until the return of your period as a reference point, just take a test once a month to keep yourself informed. That way if you do get pregnant, you will know, and can get prenatal care. But at this point, a lack of a period doesn't necessarily mean you are pregnant, but it also doesnt mean anything is wrong.
