boys: I need help

I'm so confused, boys generally confuse me. so the other day I got asked out by a guy who I am very close to. We are so close and even when we are going out it's so nice. We then agreed to meet up, every time though he makes up excuses to not turning up. 5 times so far and we are yet to meet up. yesterday we were talking but it was a conversation like you would have with your mate. he didn't send kisses like he normally does or put love you. i asked what what wrong and then he just said that he doesn't want to be in a relationship because he wants to focus on his GCSEs even though we don't need to start properly revising until Feb March. why did he ask me out to say that he doesn't want a girlfriend the nest day? 😭😭
