What do contractions feel like?

Hi ladies, 
I'm 39+4 and basically just waiting for labour to begin 😂 
But it dawned on me that I have no idea what to expect ito contractions. 
Please share what your initial contractions felt like.. and whether you knew for sure that you were in labour or not.

Mine felt like someone was slowly pushing a steak knife into my tailbone and the pain got gradually worse and worse and worse until I had no choice but to thrash my head back and forth and scream "oh God no please no!". Then it would slowly recede which felt like heaven until I realized it would be coming back around again soon...

Early part felt like period cramps for me. Not the part when you know the flow is INTENSE (sorry for the image 😂) but when you sit up in your bed and go "oh gosh I hope I remembered to wear pads in the evening before I came to bed". I had them from waking up in the morning until 4pm when my water broke, quite irregular but persistent. After that they became regular, and hours later they developed into more intense contractions. That part doesn't feel like cramps anymore. It's hard to describe though, but by this part I already had a room in the hospital, midwife and doctors regularly checking me etc.

Mine started off as "Braxton hicks" with some mild cramping.. like period.  Then the cramping got more intense... it turned in to ridiculous back pain and hardening of the belly. I got to the point where I couldn't sit through them, and I cried.  I made my SO take me to the hospital.. I didn't care if it was the "real thing". Also felt like I had to poop every time one happens. Luckily it was real , because no way I could do that again. It's true what they say , you just know.

To me they're like cramps all over my bottom part of my stomach with aches then they just get stronger and stronger for me there's no confusing them with anything else I KNOW when I'm in labor this is my 4th pregnancy so I should know by now 😂

honestly I'm not really sure how to describe my contractions. but I definitely knew when they were the real thing because it was not like a normal cramp AT ALL. I felt it in my lower abdominal area, it felt like my vagina was being pulled apart with intense burning feeling, and then my back labor just was intense back pain that i would feel during my period. I hope this kinda helped. just remember to breathe through the contractions also. breathe breathe breathe. don't forget it! because you'll want to forget to just cry but try not too! also if you can't take the pain  anymore, get an epirdual its worth it! I ended up getting one at almost 8cm and I'm glad I did! good luck to you!!❤❤ and safe delivery

Mine started out like period cramps that would come and go.. then they turned into period cramps x10000000 along with intense back pain. Trust me, you'll know when its the real deal.. they were the worst pain I've ever felt and the worst part of labor imo. My daughter was worth every bit of pain and I'd do it all over again if I had to!

like period cramps that make your stomach hard. I'm at the hospital now, and around 1am I started having them 6min apart. then I felt a poke and my water broke.
