Giving Birth in a Military Hospital?

Question

I'm 100% new to this and have no idea what to expect. Military doctors don't really give you any information either so I feel like I'm going in blind. I've had plenty of friends who have given birth and are non-military but their pregnancies have been much different like with the number of ultrasounds to how frequent their visits get towards the end of their pregnancies. 
I have some questions so I can be better prepared. I mean, at this point, we have no idea who will deliver our daughter (Due 10-28) or have even met any of the doctors who would be delivering her. 
Any military moms already or women who are in the same boat?

Honestly,  switch to standard. It’s much better quality of care and the max you pay is $300 for the delivery/Hospital stay. I am doing it for my second child and I’m so happy I switched. 
I had my first on base and while I didn’t have anything shockingly bad happen, I didn’t enjoy the experience or the fact that EVERYTHING is a hassle and/or no real bedside manner. I worked healthcare, I know they are capable of at least being polite.

I had my last two kids in a civilian hospital, this one is going to be at a military hospital. So far, I have no complaints about them. Honestly, you never know who is going to deliver your baby, so that part doesn’t bug me. By the time I hit that point, I don’t care who gets the baby out, just get the baby out!!! Lol, but if they aren’t giving you much info at your appointments, make a list of things you want to talk about with them. That’s what I’ve done, they’ve been great about addressing all of my concerns right away!

It's pretty much been the same for me. Not a whole lot of info at appointments so asking questions is a must. I only had two ultrasounds my whole pregnancy...but my friend had a lot. She specifically chose a doctor and set appointments with only him when he was available because of the fact that he does a lot of ultrasounds. So I guess it really just depends on who you see.

I refused to be seen by a military doctor with both my pregnancies. I had a bad experience with the hospital here at JBLM. SO SO rude and not helpful at all. I switched to tricare standard and I will be having my second baby at a civilian hospital. It isn't that bad and I only had to pay small co payments. I didn't pay more than 50 dollars to have my daughter. I don't remember exactly how much I paid but it wasn't bad at all.

It depends which base you're at. We're stationed somewhere where I'm upset that I'm too high risk for the base because the hospital is much better than the civilian one.

Generally you can request to meet the delivery doctors. They gave me that option at Madigan. I only got three ultra sounds, the 20 week was the "big" one, and they gave me a referral to somewhere off base for that. The other two I didn't even get pictures printed because it was literally just to check for five minutes or so and done. So far my doctors and nurses have been great! They have been very helpful, especially when the husband was away at training for a month. I haven't given birth yet, but I probably won't have a doctor that I've had before, unfortunately that's really common in the military community. But I don't mind it all.
