How should I paint my kitchen table?

My kitchen table looks like this.

I just moved & my boyfriends step mom gave us her table. 
It's not my style, so I want to paint it. 
We are doing a black and silver theme. 
Black couch, silver decor etc. 
How should I paint the table and chairs?

looks like real, quality wood. is it?
you could do a dark stain to darken the wood and add chair covers to bring in colors from around the house

How about grey?? Not sure if it'll make the room too dark but it sounds nice?? Or black seats and paint the table a different colour
