Are we child proofing too much?

There's a huge market for baby proofing your home and keeping children safe... but do you think we child proof the world too much? If we prevent our children from being able to hurt themselves doing something are we helping them or hindering them in a world where you really need to know how to navigate through what's safe and what's not... how to get back up when you've been knocked down...

What exactly do think sticking a finger in a light socket or falling down a flight of stairs is going to teach a toddler about how life really is?

I don't think it truly hurt my sister's and I to put cushions on the marble countertop corners that cut open my uncles head when he was a kid🤷🏻‍♂️
Baby proofing isn't just for the baby, it's basically babyproofing your wallet too. Stitches and doctor visits are expensive, and worse case scenario is that you lose a child because something mundane wasn't baby proofed (like stairs, balcony, gun, knives, outlets, bathrooms+electronics, chokeables etc).
You can replace baby proofing with child proofing. Same thing is meant.

Yes! Way too much! I would like more avoidable injuries and accidental poisoning! Let the babies figure it out! Sink or swim! Survival of the fittest!

Not if you know a kid who has fallen down a flight of stairs or ingested chemicals from under the sink.

I use them and firmly believe in them. Yes, some babies find their way around them, but why wouldn't you want to keep your child from putting their fingers in an outlet? And no, anyone who had a 1 year old KNOWS that cannot be taught yet. They literally lack the ability to learn from mistakes or from being told.
We use a gate to keep her out of our laundry room with all the dirty shoes, and our water heater. We keep the cabinets with chemicals locked. Because we love our kid. I don't get why it's a big deal 🤷🏻‍♀️

I prefer the drawer/cabinet locks in the kitchens so hubby can't get into them either

My mom didn't child proof the house. She took the time to teach me right from wrong without locking me out or gating me in certain areas of the house. 🤷🏾‍♀️
