Clomid question! Please read!

I took clomid to get pregnant with my son 2 years ago and me and my husband just started trying again and I was put back on clomid. I know your suppose to take your first pill on the 3rd day of your cycle and then continue for 4 more days, well I started my period the 15 of September (lasted 3 days) I went to the doctor on the 26th with was 8 days after my period stopped and my doctor told me to go ahead and start my dose of clomid but I've not taken it the way it's suppose to be taken. Would I still ovulate with it?? Or did I pretty much waste a dose?
