Is it because Americans aren’t raised by their mothers anymore?

Ok, before everyone just loses it, I don’t mean this to be rude or any form of hatred about Americans. I love our southern neighbours! But I’ve been thinking about all these horrible acts in the news. Not terrorism but acts on Americans against Americans like Vegas. Now where I live we provide 18 months of maternity leave so mothers can raise their babies. The main reason is for bonding. You have the 18 months to bond and raise your child. My friend in Montana had to return to work when her baby was 6 weeks old! Her son is being raised by strangers at a daycare. Do you think if Americans started raising their babies again peoples minds would be more stable? Few American mothers get to raise their babies now a days.

I think it’s because America has improper mental health care. We do not look at a person who has a genuine mental issue and do everything we can to help them. We can barely give our people regular health insurance. Maybe it’s got something to do with early bonding, or maybe it’s because Americans only see a mental health crisis after someone’s committed a heinous crime. Or maybe it’s both.

I think that americas total abandenment of its people is causing deseperate and extreme reactions. People can only suffer and be afraid for so long before they snap. Complete and unconditional access to healthcare, mental health services, and social supports would solve a lot of americas problems tbh.

Idk if limited maternity leave is necessarily the cause of these horrible violent acts, but I do think it's a big problem in the USA. Mothers only get a guaranteed 12 weeks unpaid and most people can't afford to even take that long off. It's extremely beneficial for kids to have time with their parents. They need that support system and that bond and it can cause mental problems and instability if they aren't able to develop it. I was raised in a Mormon church as a kid and they very strongly believe that one of the parents needs to stay at home and take care of the kids if at all possible. I'm not in the church anymore but this is one of the beliefs I still value.

I'm an elementary school teacher and in my five years of teaching, I have felt more like a mom to some students than their own parents . In some ways it is a blessing to have others help raise a child because if it weren't for responsible adults in daycares or teaching, some children would never have good role models.

In the US it’s very very common to only get 6-12 weeks of maternity leave and it isn’t necessarily all paid for. For me I was able to get 12 weeks of fmla. If I want to be paid for any of it I need to use my pto and sick time. That being said I only had so much sick time and pto. I was off 6 weeks but only paid for 5 weeks. And I couldn’t afford to take off any longer. However that being said I still do not look at it like Daycare/strangers are raising my son. I am still his mother and I am still raising him and will continue to raise him to be the man he will one day be. I can teach my son right from wrong, I can teach my son manners, I can teach my son everything I want to even though he is going to Daycare. I would sure hope Daycare wouldn’t be teaching my son bad habits. We pay tons and tons of money for these strangers to take care of our children and help in the process of raising our kids by teaching them things in our absence. I still think that some children’s behaviors are a direct reflection of how their parents brought them up and then there’s people who are just mentally ill who do the terrible things they do. I do not support them by any means with the things they do but I wouldn’t say it’s because of how they were brought up with strangers also instead is strictly their parents for almost 2 years. If that was the case there would be far more things going on in the world. I can teach my son the same things you would be able to teach yours and bond with my son just as much as you bond with yours. It’s just a different lifestyle and a different way .

Even thought I agree that babies/kids should spend most of the time with their moms and dads and learning from them than being raised but strangers, I don't agree with your statement. Acts like these have more bigger influencing factors. A combination of mental illness (perhaps), drugs, low quality life, lack of education, lack of emotional or mental support, trauma and abuse and most importantly IMO at least is the easy access to guns. If you have one crazy person and you give them a gun then what to you expect! Plus what he did was a "Terrorist" attack. Didn't you see those poor people running for dear life so scared for their families and loved ones and themselves and then they experienced that most traumatic experience. Well that's terrorism. It doesn't have to be a "foreigner" attacking an American to be called terrorism.

I think you raise a good point about mothers that should be able to stay home and bond with their babies for longer. However, I don’t think that’s the reason for attacks by Americans to Americans. 
I think lack of gun control has a lot to answer for (I know! It’s your right! It’s on the ancient piece of paper! Gotta “protect yourself”! Whatever - fucken heard it, you don’t need to comment that shit) and people are just assholes sometimes and go crazy and attack people.

You might be on to something. Babies need more time with their Moms. They also need more time and attention beyond the infant stage. Something is going seriously wrong. I hope we can make some changes in our country. For me I’m starting in my home. I don’t know what else to do. 😔

The strangers that raise my kids are awesome and love my kids very much.  
I don't know that much about the most recent shooter, but being he was 64 years old, it is very possible he was raised by his mom and maternity leave wasn't even a factor in his life.
I agree with the posters who said there is a mental health crisis in America....but it is more than that. I think there are a lot of things going on culturally and politically that are very scary.
