Dating a solider

I recently met this guy that I'm obsessed with. We met at the beginning of August when I was in vacation. We live 3 1/2 hours away from each other but I make frequent visits to see him. Our whole situation is unconventional but I'm still super curious on what could be so I'm taking my time. He is the military and will be leaving for Afghanistan in December. Any tips for dating a soldier?
