How did you pick a guardian for your child?

Tell me, how you did you manage to narrow down your options for a guardian? How did you sort out what you prioritized most? We are truly struggling in our decision for our Will. I know we will likely have to sit few people down and talk things through with them before making any formal decisions. Just wondering how other people decided and if they had advice.

We ultimately decided on the person that we thought we raise our child the closest to the way that we would have raised her. Which is my sister. She lives with us and is the closest person to our daughter after my husband and I. She would also be very respectful of our wishes.

We started with siblings first... then went through, because we each have 3 siblings, on pros and cons of each one as to if we wanted them to be in charge of our kids if something happens...it was a fairly quick decision because we went off of first if they had the same beliefs as us and out of 6 there's only 2, many other factors also knocked off the others also, but that list is way to long. Then one of those two lived out of state and I know that wouldn't fly with my family, so they're our second choice. But my younger sister is listed as our legal guardian. Then his brother and his wife, then both sets of parents if it came down to it.

We went through pros and cons of family first and ultimately chose a friend of ours. Obviously she wouldn't get him unless both of us die but we are happy with knowing she'd raise him how we would.

My husband both agreed without a doubt it would be my mom.  She stayed with me in the hospital and my first week at home.  My daughter is almost 9 months and my mom has seen her at least once a week, every week since she was born.

The sibling I want to be his guardian isn’t old enough yet (18), but if we’re still alive when she’s ready we’ll make her his guardian. In the meantime we’ve unofficially chosen our close friends, chiefly because I don’t want my child raised by my dad. I feel guilty because my mom would be our choice if my dad wasn’t there.

We made my partner's brother and sister in law her religious god parents as they are religious but live far away and my sister and her husband will be my daughter's caregivers if my partner and i both pass away. It was a very easy decision for us as we both only have one other sibling and I trust my sister as she knows how I would want her raised.

My fiancé and I decided on my mom because out of all of the options, she was most financially stable and financially responsible and she has had the closest relationship to us and would raise our son the way we would or at least pretty close to it.

i am not giving anyone legal rights to our daughter. my husband and i are her legal guardians and parents. however,  in our will,  my sister is to be asign as her legal guardian, if and when we both die. if i die, my husband is the only legal guardian.  if he dies, i am. if we both die, my sister will become legal guardian of our daughter.  while we are both alive and well,  we are not giving anyone legal rights to our daughter
