Do proms have themes?

I am the Vice President of my junior class and I would like to be re-elected next year, but as President. In order to do that, this year has to be great. Mainly, Prom. Do proms usually have a theme? If so, what are popular prom themes? Ideas for other fun events that would make students vote for me next year are also welcome.

One year was winter themed, then great gatsby was a theme, my prom was themed somewhere only we know. But others I've heard are starry night, winter wonderland, mascaraed. But that's just my school
