wondering when to test! need advice!

I have had an IUD for two years, and it stopped my period. before that I was pregnant. So I havent had a period in almost 3 years. They told me I could start trying instantly and I have. But I have no idea when to test. this my first period and I have no idea when to test and see if I am or not. before I got pregnant the first time, I had irregular periods. Please help!
