Catheter experience..?

Hey! Bit of a silly question really. 
Just had my catheter removed 36 hours after labour. Just a bit curious if things will feel normal down there? I didn't feel the urge to pee once with it in- will things just return as normal now that it's been taken out? Don't want to end up wetting the bed from not noticing that I needed to go! 🙈

I actually didn't feel the urge to pee after it was out. I didn't wet myself, just didn't feel like I had to go. I went to the bathroom and tried after not feeling like I had to for so long, and I seriously peed for like 10 minutes straight haha so maybe just try even if you don't feel like you have to go. Things felt back to normal by the next day

You don’t feel the urge while it’s in, that’s normal. The urine just drains out as it builds up in your bladder. 
Once the catheter comes out, you will be able to pee like normal. I’m a nurse and in the hospital we give patients 6 hours after the catheter is removed to urinate. If it doesn’t happen within 6 hours, we need to intervene (bladder scan) to figure out what’s going on. 
I had a catheter during labor and they removed it right before my daughter was born. I felt the urge to pee within 2 hours after delivery. The nurse helped me to the bathroom and I pee’d without issue. I was getting IV fluids during labor so I had to urinate several times in the first few hours after delivery.

Did they say why they left it in for so long? 
Once the catheter is removed it can take your body's 'sensors' a little bit to turn back on and alert you to a full bladder. You should make a conscious effort to try and urinate every 4 hours even if you don't feel the urge. And once you pee, sit there a little longer to make sure your bladder is empty (you don't want any retention). 
After I had mine removed (which was in for 8 hours), I didn't feel the urge to pee for about 2 days. I just continued to stay hydrated and made myself go to the bathroom 😕

Yeah, with everything out of wack down there in the belly area and swollen, you won't feel that urge to pee. I'm surprised my bladder didn't rupture a couple times.

I got a UTI from the catheter. I did not know that I could refuse it and get a bed pan. my infection got so bad it went into my uterus. never again will I get a catheter.

It will go back to normal. For me with my daughter it took two hours to feel normal & with my son it only took an hour. But I did end up with UTI's after both which I don't think is normal i believe the nurse in both cases was gloveless & I was too out of it to realize. Congradualtions & don't stress it if you do wet the bed it can be cleaned. ☺
