Should I or should I not ask this guy out.

I met this guy at my new school, we don’t talk but we text. He’s shy and quiet and isn’t that popular with the girls. I’m opposite of that, I’m loud and talkative and I love messing around with my friends, so we have been talking and he asked me out in class one day and I didn’t know what to say so I just told him I’ll think about it. That was last week, and I caught him hanging out with this other girl and I felt jealous so I confronted him about it last night through text. He replied saying he thinks I don’t like him and He’s not good enough for a girl like me. I asked him what he meant and he said a pretty popular girl. I asked him why he thought I was pretty, so he said that my personality is pretty everything about me is beautiful. I admit it, I didn’t believe a single word he said. So me and my friend were talking and she says I should go for it and date him but I’m not so sure, he’s not the player type at all and yeah..
